A 4-bed multi-story home one row back from the Gulf, with a penthouse-style master terrace and a shaded pool — an honest review of a peaceful North End AMI rental.

On our recent late-spring getaway, we stayed at a beautiful 4-bedroom multi-story property nestled at the quiet northern tip of the island in the city of Anna Maria. If you are planning an AMI vacation, here is our honest, detailed review of this gem of a house—the highlights, the quirks, and everything in between.

The Location: One Row Back from the Gulf

While not technically beachfront, the property sits just one row off the Gulf of Mexico, with the beach outlet just a minute's walk up the road. What makes this specific spot one of my absolute favorite stretches of sand on the island is that there is no street parking here. Because day-trippers can't easily park nearby, this part of the beach stays incredibly quiet and peaceful compared to the crowds you find further up closer to Bean Point. As a massive bonus, you get the quiet residential vibe without being isolated—it's only a few minutes' walk down to the boutique shops and restaurants on Pine Avenue.

The Layout: Spacious Living and Room to Breathe

The accommodation spans the upper levels of the property, elevating you just enough to catch those refreshing coastal breezes.

The Second Floor (The Hub of the Home): The main living floor features a spacious, open-concept living, dining, and kitchen area that never felt cramped, even with the whole family under one roof. The kitchen was incredibly well-catered—it had all the "bits and bobs" you could possibly need to cook proper family meals, which isn't always a guarantee with vacation rentals. There are three bedrooms on this level: one boasts a lovely front balcony facing the road and looking out toward the beach, while the other two include a comfortable twin room and a double bedroom, with two well-placed bathrooms shared between them.

The Top Floor (A Penthouse-Style Oasis): The absolute best thing about this house is the top floor, which is entirely dedicated to a stunning master suite. It features a huge, private terrace with fantastic views of the water—our own private viewing deck. There was nothing quite like sitting out there watching the famous Anna Maria Island sunsets paint the sky. The bathroom is clearly recently renovated, offering a crisp, modern beach feel. The one catch: the stairs leading up to this top floor are long and very, very steep. If you are traveling with young children (as we were), it might make you a little nervous, so keep that in mind when assigning rooms.

Outdoor Living: A Shaded Pool Paradise

Florida summers and late springs get hot, which is why the outdoor setup here was an absolute home run. Off the main living room, a small terrace leads down to the backyard. On the ground level, you'll find a small indoor chill-out zone with a cozy sofa—perfect for getting out of the midday heat—which opens up to a lovely, good-sized swimming pool and a small barbecue area.

The best part? Because of how the house is positioned, part of the pool is nestled underneath the house itself. Combined with the mature tree cover, the pool area got a perfect mix of sun and shade. For a late-spring getaway, this was ideal—we could swim for hours without worrying about the intense Florida sun.

Old Florida Charm Meets Modern Mansions

The island is changing. Directly adjacent to the property, huge modern mansions were being completed during our stay, and unfortunately these new builds do obscure some of the water views from the house—views that would have previously been completely unobstructed. While it's a shame to lose that wide-open Gulf view, the house still maintains plenty of charm, nice glimpses of the water, and that unbeatable one-to-two-minute walk to the shore.

The Verdict: Would We Stay Here Again?

Absolutely. Despite the steep top-floor stairs and the changing view due to local construction, the pros of this Anna Maria Island rental vastly outweigh the cons. If you want peace and quiet, good space, and immediate beach access on the north end of AMI, this property should be right at the top of your list.

Quick Overview

The Pros: Two-minute walk to a quiet, no-parking beach; massive, well-stocked kitchen and living space; well-shaded pool area (perfect for kids and spring heat); walking distance to Pine Avenue

The Cons: Long, very steep stairs to the top floor; recent mansion construction blocks the full water views
