A 3-bed stilted home in quiet Anna Maria City with a 3-minute stroller shortcut to the sand and a completely covered under-house pool — our honest, first-hand family review.

Planning a family trip to the North End of Anna Maria Island (AMI) and trying to find the perfect place to drop your bags? If your vacation priorities revolve around instant beach access, surviving the Florida summer heat, and keeping the kids entertained, choosing the right house is everything.

We recently spent a week at a 3-bedroom, 2-bathroom rental property located right in Anna Maria City—the quiet, picturesque northern tip of the island. Managed by Island Real Estate, this stilted island home serves up major classic beach vibes. While the house itself had a few indoor quirks, the location and the pool setup made it an unforgettable family getaway. Here is our completely honest review of the highlights, the lowdowns, and who this property is best for.

The Big Wins: Location & The Ultimate Shadow Pool

When you are traveling with a multi-generational group—grandparents, parents, and young kids—the logistics of getting to the beach can make or break your trip. This property absolutely nailed the two most important features of an AMI vacation.

The Perfect Location (3-Minute Walk to the Sand): The location of this house in Anna Maria City was flawless—we were just two blocks away from the inlet beach access. Thanks to a handy little shortcut through the road, we could load up our small beach buggy and be standing on the sand within three minutes. No packing up the car, no hunting for parking. And because the North End curves, we got the best of both worlds: my wife and I slipped away in the mornings while the kids and grandparents slept in to watch the sunrise, then the whole family walked down together in the evenings to catch those famous Gulf sunsets.

The Covered "Under-House" Pool & Hot Tub: We visited in June, and the Florida heat was intense. This property has a massive architectural advantage—the pool is completely undercover, tucked beneath the stilted house. We could swim at 1:00 PM in the dead of the afternoon without worrying about sunburns or the oppressive June heat. It was a cool, shaded oasis. The outdoor amenities didn't stop there: a fantastic, relaxing hot tub, a premium BBQ grill for family cookouts, and a highly convenient outdoor shower to rinse off the salt and sand before heading upstairs.

The Accommodations: Cozy Beach Vibes with a Few Quirks

The property itself is a classic stilted island home with high ceilings and a laid-back aesthetic. However, if you are looking for ultra-luxury or sprawling space, this layout might feel a bit tight compared to other spaces on the island.

First Floor (Main Hub): Two double bedrooms, a living area, kitchen, and one bathroom. The rooms are nicely decorated and comfortable, and there are two outdoor spaces—a road-facing balcony and a small dining terrace. The drawback is that it can feel a bit cramped if the whole extended family is hanging out inside at once.

Second Floor (The Loft): A twin bedroom and one bathroom. The kids loved having their own private upstairs "den." The drawback is the heat—despite a separate AC unit, it was incredibly tough to keep cool, and the styling up here is fairly sparse.

Does it need some TLC? Yes. While the home is perfectly clean and functional, parts of the interior are a bit dated. It needs a little tender loving care to truly match the premium quality of the outdoor pool area and the stellar location.

The Rental Management Experience

A quick shoutout to Island Real Estate—they were great to deal with. Check-in was seamless, and they provided a nice little welcome pack with essential starter amenities to get our week off to a smooth start. Good management can be rare on the barrier islands, so their professionalism was a huge plus.

The Verdict: Should You Book It?

For the money, the pool and beach access can't be beaten. If you plan to spend a lot of your time indoors hanging out and avoiding the midday heat, you might find the interior space a bit restrictive and dated. However, if you are visiting AMI for the outdoor lifestyle—if you want to effortlessly watch the sunrise and sunset every day, and if you want a built-in sun refuge for your kids to swim safely in the shade—this house is an absolute home run. It proved to us that on Anna Maria Island, location and a great pool override everything else.
