A sleek, modern 3-bed North End rental with a brilliant private pool and spa, a short walk to Pine Avenue — our honest, unfiltered family review (golf cart strongly recommended).
If you're hunting for a sleek, modern 3-bed vacation home, Castaway Cove (managed by Mega Vacation AMI) is worth putting on your radar. Tucked away on the highly desirable North End, it promises compact upscale coastal styling with a killer pool. But does it deliver for families?
We spent a week here as a multi-generational crew of seven: myself and my wife, my parents, and three of our kids (a baby, a 6-year-old, and a 9-year-old). While we had an absolute blast, this property has a few unique quirks you need to know before you input your credit card details. Here is our completely honest, unfiltered review of Castaway Cove.
The Layout: Sleek, Modern, and Just a Little Snug
Walking through the front door, the first thing you notice is the decor. The interior decoration is beautiful—very clean, modern, and high-end coastal without being overly "beachy." The layout is straightforward: 3 bedrooms and one larger, open-plan living, dining, and kitchen area. Because everything is open, it functions as the absolute hub of the house.
The Family Reality Check: With four adults, two young kids, and a baby, it's not exactly sprawling. We managed completely fine and never felt suffocated, but if your group needs separate zones to escape to on a rainy day, keep in mind that the indoor square footage is on the cozier side. For smaller families or couples, it would be an absolute dream setup.
The Pool: The Main Reason to Book This House
Let's talk about the main draw of Castaway Cove: the backyard. The private pool and spa setup is brilliant—it looks brand new and is a genuinely great size for this scale of property. We did hit a frustrating snag during the first few days of our trip when the pool heating system had some issues, which meant it was too chilly for the kids to use right away. Luckily, the management team got it sorted, and once the heat was kicking, we couldn't get the kids out of it. We spent nearly every afternoon out here, cooking on the BBQ and enjoying the quiet neighborhood.
Parent-to-Parent Tip: There is very little shade over the pool area. Because that Florida sun gets intense, you'll definitely want to pack plenty of high-SPF sun cream, wide-brimmed hats, or even a small pop-up sun tent if you're traveling with an infant.
The Location: Pine Avenue Convenience vs. The Beach Commute
When researching where to stay on Anna Maria Island, location is everything. Castaway Cove sits in a prime pocket, but depending on what your family values most, it's a bit of a trade-off.
The Pine Avenue Perk (Short Walk): You are just a very short, flat stroll away from Pine Avenue, which was incredibly convenient. We loved being able to easily wander over for a morning coffee, browse the boutiques, or grab a casual bite to eat without having to load everyone into a car.
The Beach Hustle (The Hard Work): This is where personal preference comes into play. The beach is a good 5-minute walk away. On paper, five minutes sounds like nothing. In reality—when you are wrangling a baby, a 6-year-old, and a 9-year-old while carrying beach chairs, umbrellas, toys, and a cooler—that 5-minute trek becomes a serious workout. After trying it once, we threw in the towel and I just drove our gear down to the sand.
The Ultimate Insider Lesson: Hire a Golf Cart
If we stay at Castaway Cove again, my number one priority will be booking an AMI golf cart rental for the week. This property is practically begging for a golf-cart lifestyle. Having one parked in the driveway would instantly solve the beach commute issue, let you drop off gear effortlessly, and make exploring the rest of the North End an absolute breeze for the grandparents and kids alike.
The Verdict: Who Is Castaway Cove Best For?
Castaway Cove is a stellar, stylish base if you don't need a massive amount of indoor space, prioritize a clean, modern interior over traditional beach kitsch, want an excellent private pool for afternoon BBQs, and love being able to walk to the shops and restaurants on Pine Ave. For me personally, when traveling with very young kids, I'll always lean toward being just a few steps closer to the sand to avoid the beach-logistics headache. But if you don't mind renting a golf cart or taking a quick drive to the coast, this modern little gem is a brilliant North End option.
