Free beaches, the free island trolley, a free museum, nature trails and markets: the best free and low-cost things to do on Anna Maria Island.
Some of the best things on Anna Maria Island cost nothing at all. Here's how to fill your days without spending much.
1. The beaches. Every public beach on the island is free to enjoy. Parking rules and prices vary, and three of the public lots in our guide are confirmed free by an official source. Parking guide.
2. Ride the free trolley. The Route 5 trolley runs the length of the island, from the Anna Maria City Pier to Coquina Beach, every day of the year. It's a free sightseeing trip in itself. Getting around.
3. Go shelling at Bean Point. The island's northern tip is quiet and often rich in shells. Take only empty shells and leave anything alive where you found it.
4. Visit the free Historical Museum. The Anna Maria Island Historical Museum, with its old jail and Belle Haven cottage, is free to visit.
5. Walk the nature trails. Robinson Preserve, just over the bridge, is free, with trails and views over restored wetland. On the island, Leffis Key Preserve has boardwalks and shell paths with great birdwatching. Parks and nature.
6. Browse a market. The Coquina Beach Market is free to wander, and runs Wednesday, Friday and Sunday, 10am to 2pm. The 2026–27 season began on 2 October; check the market's page for weather closures. Events calendar.
7. Watch the sunset. The island's best show is free every evening. Best sunset spots.
8. Look out for wildlife. Dolphins often pass close to shore, and shorebirds feed along the water's edge. Watch from a respectful distance. Wildlife guide.
